The Thomas Moore Tavern recently completed by Stephen Carr Architects
“The Thomas Moore Tavern” is already been described as a breath of fresh air to Wexford.
When Tony and Breda approached us, the Thomas Moore Tavern which is a listed building, had already a new unfinished five storey extension constructed to the rear. The building had a very restricted footprint, with low ceilings, poor circulation and access. The clients agreed to include the adjoining retail unit which allowed us to create a separate access from the street to the new Bistro which also improved the circulation within.
We were also able to create a third access from the street allowing patrons direct access by a lift to “The Spires” Restaurant on the 5th Floor with panoramic views over the town. In early discussions it was agreed that a traditional pub should be recreated which was both comfortable and timeless. The adjoining spaces comprising of a Bistro, Piano Bar, Smoking Area, Toilets and Restaurant were to be elegant and sophisticated and finished to a very high standard.
From the outset we decided it was important to ensure attention to detail would be applied to every aspect of the interior and exterior of this project. This becomes apparent when one walks through the stairwell or visits the toilets which are areas that are normally forgotten.
It was vital to us that the building would look attractive from the steet and this was achieve by the use of a strong muted colour scheme with complimentary awnings and planting.
Internally the use of dark stained wood panelling and flooring is used extensively to give a harmonious feel throughout, rich wallcoverings, unusual light fittings, textured leathers, sumptuous drapes and warm colours add a unique cosmopolitan feel to the interior.
